I just recently priced a 4700 john deere compact with the following equipment-folding rops, 4 wheel dirive, hst transmission, 7 pin outlet kit, rear work light, draft sensing kit, r4 tires, dual selective control valve, power beyond kit, 4th and 5th scv's for 23,350. I have a 120 acre farm with about 90 acres of open ground and a 6 acre yard to mow. Is this a good tractor to by, and can I do some breaking of ground with it, my wife won't let me get something bigger, requirment has to be that she can drive it. Also, got a price for a 460 loader at 3,420 dollars. Let me know what ya'll think about this set up. Also, what do ya'll think about the landpride FDR 2572 rear discharge finish mower. Thanks.

James, somebody else will have to help you with an evaluation of the numbers quoted on the 4700 'cause I've got no experience in this area. As far as the Land Pride FDR2572 goes, I did all the comparison shopping and decided to buy one. It was to be used on a new tractor which would primarily dedicated to mowing. This would have been a mistake because I luckily happened to measure the width of my rear tires and saw that a 6 foot mower was just a little too small. If it matters to you to be able to mow wider than your tracks, I strongly suggest that you put a tape measure on a 4700 with the exact tires you will be getting, just to be sure. Don't rely on specs in a brochure that talk about tread width. I ended up with a FDR2584 and am completely satisfied. I specified air tires and got the front roller option. Besides, with the amount of property you have to care for, I'd go for a larger mower anyway. ....

I'd look at the JD 5105. You'll have much better luck with the
slightly heavier tractor, and your wife shouldn't notice much
or any diference driving it. I believe it is even less expensive
than the 4700.

The 5105 is a real utility tractor Am I right? I talked to my JD dealer whom I been dealing with and asked about pricing between the 4600 and the 5105. I am getting a few hours on it as a leased tractor pulling grape trailers. Different stokes for different farms ha ha
